Thermophysics & Thermosensorics

The activities in research and development at ZAE Bayern, in the field of thermophysics and thermosensorics, lead to a better physical understanding and reliable characterization of thermophysical properties of new materials and materials, which are relevant for power engineering.

The emphases of the topic are in the description and analyses of complex heat transfer processes in heterogeneous systems (Thermal Analysis), in modelling and characterization of heat transfer via thermal radiation (Applied IR Metrology), as well as in the qualitative and quantitative determination of thermal processes and charting them (Thermosensorics). Essential element of all areas is the development of innovative measuring techniques, like e.g. imaging analysis technique. These allow a reliable characterization during particular conditions (e.g. temperature and pressure) as well for new types of material and material systems.

Through the competence of the working groups active on this field and the close integration with the other fields of ZAE Bayern, know-how is available which allows special synergies in the sector of basic research as well as in the applied energy research.

About ZAE Bayern

ZAE Bayern works on the interface between evidence-based fundamental and applied- industrial research. Every year the institute performs a great number of projects with the industry, from SME to large groups, as well as with university and non-university research partners.
